The Category section is a location where the idea or concept can be abstractly summarized as a generic category. Typically ideas will formulate themselves into 4-5 natural categories that allow easy generalization. Review the idea or concept and allow its natural interpretation to form into a category, which is then documented. An effort should always be made to extract several ideas from a starting concept. Concepts are very important because once a concept is noted or recognized it is usually possible to extract or identify similarities in features that can allow the recognition of an alternative way of implementing the idea.
After the spreadsheet has been completed the ideas that seem to be the most successful may all come from the same category which would allow the team to recognize that they should potentially concentrate on other ideas or concepts that fall into that same area. These generic categories as seen in figure 4 allow the dissection of many ideas into broad logical separations or themes.
